Aside from perhaps brushing your teeth or taking a shower, there are few daily rituals as important as using face lotion, especially if you happen to have a regular occurrence of dry skin. Some experts even say the use of face lotion can help reduce the chance of accumulating wrinkles and lines, and besides, a nicely moisturized face just looks a lot more appealing than a dry, flaky one.
So, as long as you’re moisturizing your face, you might as well find a good quality lotion to do it with. Here’s a couple worth checking out: Gillette’s Complete Skincare Facial Moisturizer ($6 for a 1.7 oz. bottle) and Baxter of California’s Oil Free Moisturizer ($18 for a 4 oz. bottle), each of which are really great for their own reasons.
Let’s start with the Gillette’s, which is, first and foremost, obviously cheaper—by quite a large margin—until you take into account the fact that it’s in a proportionally smaller bottle, making the price actually pretty close between the two. This one has a nice consistency that goes on evenly and absorbs quickly. And one thing the Gillette has up on the Baxter lotion is that it has SPF 15, giving your face a little necessary protection from the sun.
Baxter of California’s, while not having any sun-shunning capabilities, does have a nice matte finish that keeps your face from looking oily or greasy. Its consistency is thicker than that of the Gillette’s, perhaps more akin to a sunscreen’s thickness, but still goes on quickly and smoothly—and if you’re a sucker for packaging, the Baxters lotion destroys the Gillette’s.
