So with a few days to christmas (or any “special” day really: Anniversary, Birthday, Valetine, etc,) you still haven’t gotten the perfect gift for your loved one? Don’t panic! Here are a few tips to keep in mind as we get closer to the big day.

1. Be Optimistic. Here’s the thing, you really haven’t worried about it too much up to this point. So don’t start worrying now. Just go ahead and start gift-hunting.

2. Keep your options open. Stay away from speciality stores unless you know that there is something there they want. It’s harder to pivot and look for something else if you come up empty at a speciality store. As much as we hate them, malls are good places to cover the most ground in the least amount of time.

2. Start from what you know. People tell you what they want all they time. You just need to listen. What have they said they’ve liked? What have they bought for themselves or for someone else lately? Do they have a wishlist on Amazon or Pinterest?

3. Ask for help. It’s okay to ask mutual friends what the object of your gift giving might like. Also, talk to your fellow shoppers, they are shopping because they are looking for last minute gifts too so it’s easy to build a bond of support with them.

4. Give them the gift reciept. Being appreciative of recieving a gift is one thing, being forced to keep a gift they don’t want is something else. Give them a gift reciept is a tackful way of saying it’s cool if they don’t like the gift and they can take it back.

First, a little about Doctor Who, he is an alien being that travels through time and space in a vehicle called the Tardis helping people out. He has a particular interest in Earth and tends to hang out here and we get most of said help against various evil forces.

Whether you watch Doctor Who or not (and you should be) you proably know enough to wonder, “Why is he like a hundred different people?” Whatever the case, there is plenty we can learn from how he approaches fashion, and yes he is the same character and yes he does change from time to time.

First, a little about Doctor Who, he is an alien being that travels through time and space in a vehicle called the Tardis helping people out. He has a particular interest in Earth and tends to hang out here and we get most of said help against various evil forces.

The one thing about Doctor Who, besides being clever, is that he doesn’t actually ever die; he regenerates and basically becomes a new person. Each new incarnation, in addition to a new body, has his own quirks and particularities. So far there have been 11 incarnations of the Doctor

So in light of this, here are three fashion tips we can learn from Doctor Who.

When you change, let what you wear follow suit or visa-versa. With each incarnation of the Doctor, he changes his style to better reflect who he is now. The 4th Doctor wore a 20 foot long scarf while the 9th Doctor sported a buzz cut and a leather jacket.

A change of style is the easiest way to show that you have changed. Inversely, you may be finding that your current style does not fit who you are and you should update your style based on this. When the Doctor does regenerate the clothes from the old Doctor usually looks wildly out of place. Allow your style to mirror who you are right now, not who you were.

Find a signature style. Each Doctor not only changes outfits, they each had one or two things that were unique to them. You should strive for the same thing. Find something unique that people can identify you with. For example the fifth Doctor had a celery stick pinned to his lapel. Weird I know, but it’s memorable. The second Doctor was fond of hats, in particular, stove pipe hats.

So the challenge is to find something that can help define you. This could be hats, or expensive pens or cool watches or crazy socks or vegetables adorned to your clothing. Whatever it is, find it and stick with it. Think of it as a theme.

Take peoples opinion with a grain of salt (except if it’s a fez). Depending on what your style is and what you choose to make you unique, there might be push back. It’s okay, take a second, and only a second to evaluate the advice. Remember everybody has an opinion, and most advice falls in this category.

The Eleventh and current Doctor has a fondness for bow ties. His companions constantly give him a hard time about it, but it works for him. They do draw the line at wearing a fez, and rightfully so. Fez’s are not cool.

If you are comfortable, it fits your lifestyle and totally within the range of what is socially and professionally acceptable then go with it no matter what those around you might say. Be you, not them.

There are two types of men in this world.

Men who have bought tampons/maxi-pads for their significant others and those that at some point in the very near future will make that long track down the feminine product aisle.

When you’re first asked to make that trek (and it’s trek), you’re first instinct is to resist. Let it go because, to quote the Borg, resistance is futile. Even Picard knew when retreat.

So we at See Jack Shop have put together the Man’s Guide to Buying Maxi-Pads and Tampons to help you navigate the mysterious world of feminine hygiene products.

First, here is a short primer on types of products.

Know the Type of Products. There are two primary types of products: Tampons and Maxi-pads. Tampons, which are inserted where you, you know “insert”, look like small toothbrush containers with a string attached. The second are the maxi pads, which are like long bandages. There are other products like menstrual cups. We don’t know what these are and we don’t want to know.

Know the Brand She Uses. There a couple of major brands, Kotex, Tampax, Always and possibly a store brand. It is very important to know which brand she uses. Getting the wrong brand can be detrimental to your health. If need be, take a quick photo of the current brand in her closet and bring it with you to the store for easy reference.

Know what absorbent level to buy, especially for tampons. There are several absorbent levels for tampons: junior, regular, super and super plus. For once this seems rather straight forward. This has nothing to with physical size, so don’t ask for the ‘big one’, but is based on how much can be absorbed. Your lady should be able to tell you which one she needs.

Know the Extras. Apparently, pads with wings are very important as they wrap around the crotch area of the undergarment to make sure the pad doesn’t slip. Also, some pads come with thing like “dry weave technology” and “inner core”, which we say always get cause they sound cool.

In Part 2 we’ll talk about how to make the best of the experience and maybe, just maybe how to get out of it.

Idris Elba, one of our favorite actors, and let’s face it, the dude your girl would break up with you for, talks about his first suite.

Although this is a video for Tangueray, I think it’s right on with the idea of the first suit. The first suit is not literally the first suit most times, but it’s usually the first off the rack suit you actually went into the store and tried on while your parental figure looked on approvingly.
