Yea or Nay?: Men in Heels

April 30, 2007 09:42 AM

There’s just something wrong about this picture. I’m all for personal fashion expression and have been known to befriend a drag queen (or two), but the last thing I want to see is some dude rocking a tailored Hugo Boos suit and a pair of 4 inch Manolos.

One might argue that the introduction of heels into men’s fashion may give our shorter brothers a “boost”. However, that is what we have lifts and thick soled Frye boots.

Another case against heels for men is that heels were originally constructed to accentuate (and exaggerate) a woman’s shape. The only reason for a man to wear the shoes is to obtain a more “feminine” shape and gait, hence why the shoes are popular with my drag queen/ cross dressing friends.

Absolutely resoundingly YES.

But find a way to butch ‘em up, I think.

Your last argument makes the assumption that all women have the same shape. I know plenty of gals who do not look good in heels. Moreover, it also assumes that no men have “feminine” shapes and I know plenty who rocks heels better than any woman I know.

And I think his outfit is awesome.

Hooboy—as a man of small stature (and gay to boot) you’d think I’d be all over this ####, but I dunno. And anyway, have you ever *worn* heels? It’s no fun.

I think that it should be perfectly acceptable. It all depends on the person, really.

I, myself, have a fairly feminine figure. (gargantuan hips and thighs to boot.) I seriously wouldn’t mind trying something like this out.

Your statement assumes heels were designed for women.  This is incorrect.  They were first work by King Louis in the 1500s and were adopted by the well-to-do of the age by both sexes.

I would love to see more designs for men.  There are very few right now and we have to choose from designs for women as that is all that’s available right now.

hey im a gay man,

i think men should wear heels but not all men… if you happen to be what i like calling “ a woman out of a man” you can rock on heels… i do, and even though i got some bad looks sometimes, as long i feel good with myself… whats the big deal? men should definitely catch up on fashion… we dont have much choices!!! and being a man does not mean not having the choice to take care of yourself? we now have make-up for men, why not heels for men?

It took a while for a man to wear a pink dress shirt and now it’s accepted by society. Give it time...if men choose to wear heels, fashion designers need to start off with platforms for men as it was a hit in the 70’s. Today, stiletto heels are back in fashion among women which was a hit in the 80’s. Let men have platform heels but keep a fine line as everything can’t be unisex??!!!
