What: The media has gone bonkers over the style of the men and women of Mad Men, the TV show about an ad agency in the 1960’s. As usual, focusing on budget shopping isn’t always a concern for the media, so we’d like to share our finds for getting the look of yesteryear.
What we say: The colors and materials from the 1960’s differ greatly from mainstream apparel today. Take a look at the picture above–the fuzzy brown wool of that blazer, the perfectly matched tie and pocket square, and the yellowy-white collared shirt are very retro, but not outdated (anymore). Taking elements from this look is a great idea for fall.
Get the look:
–This vintage wool blazer from hookedonvintage.com has subtle checkers in blue and green. It’d be right at home on the TV show. $55.00.
–Tuck a Stafford cotton handkerchief in your pocket–it’s classier and a throwback to a time before Kleenex. JCPenney, $4.99.
–Plaid is definitely a nod to the style of the 1960’s–Macy’s has these Calvin Klein plaid silk ties we’re coveting. $49.50.
–If you want to match perfectly, this simple tie and pocket square pair from Target comes in several solid colors. $19.99.
