 The Hooded Blazer: Fashion Trend

Hybrids are very popular these days–we’ve got the hybrid car, the maltipoo dog, the pluot fruit, and now the hooded blazer. The hooded blazer has the classic buttons, the pockets on the sides and the lapels, but it also has a hood, the same kind that one would see on a raincoat. The hooded blazer first began when men wore a hoodie under their blazer when it was cold or rainy out. Then, that evolved into one piece of clothing. This strange creature seems to be suffering an identity crisis, and it’s up to the wearer to decide whether it belongs in the “casual” or “dressy” category. We think it’s more dressy than casual, which means we can wear it out on the town, rain or shine. Since it hasn’t quite hit the mainstream yet, prices tend to be on the high side, but we consider this blazer an investment in style. Soon enough, the hooded blazer will earn a place on our weekend essentials list.

Check out some of this trend’s pioneers:

Hooded blazer, $98.00, GAP.

Twice hooded blazer, $99.99, Macy’s. (This version attaches a blazer and an actual hoodie. Too strange? You decide.)

D Collection Berlin Blazer, $128.00, Urban Outfitters. (A splurge, but since the hood is removable, you have two blazers in one.)

G by GUESS Badu hooded blazer, $89.50, Amazon.com.
