NYC Fashion Week: Perry Ellis

September 5, 2008 01:09 PM

New York City Fashion Week Spring 09 has begun, in case you hadn't heard. Here at See Jack Shop, we're bringing you the latest on spring fashion to come, so you can stay one step ahead:

What: Perry Ellis Menswear Show, The Promenade at Bryant Park

The Lowdown: Summer is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean a guy can’t still fantasize about lazy days in the sun -- Perry Ellis sent out a laid-back, feelin’ good vibe for prepsters everywhere this morning, with loose knits, dangling drawstrings, and pastels in every color of the rainbow. This collection is all about the layering, but without the high maintenance. Buttons are undone and the strings untied – and every shoe comes lace-free, easy to kick off when you hit those sandy beaches. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to pop that collar before you walk out the door . . .

Our Take: Preppy is classic no matter what the season, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have to shell out your Christmas bonus to achieve this brand of boardwalk style for Spring. Mixing and matching is key, and Perry Ellis makes it easy to combine the work and play wardrobes you already own: pair that tan boardroom suit jacket with a winter knit, or pop that flashy vest under a hooded windbreaker. A very budget option if you're planning ahead? Take advantage of current post-Labor Day sales and invest in a pair of knee length khaki shorts and a couple classic polos (think periwinkle or lavender), top off with white aviators, and you’re good to go.
