Blazin' and ready for his date

How to Dress for a Casual First Date

Our job at SJS is to help you be the best man you can be without having to sell your treasured comic book collection. So it is our duty to provide you with a little guidance to help you get the girl or guy. No matter what anyone says, first impressions are the only impression that matters in most dating situations. So, it’s important that you put your best foot forward and we’re more than happy to help.

If you remember nothing else from this article, remember this “Stay in Your Fashion Zone,” which simply means wear what works and resist the urge to get creative. Umm, yeah skinny jeans are in, but as Jay Z says, not all of us can (or should) wear skinny jeans. Keep it simply with a nice pair of jeans, a blazer, shirt, and a pair of simple shoes.

A Simple Perfect First Date Outfit:

Authentic Fit Jeans, $54.50 at the Gap.

Merona Charcoal Zip Sweaer, $15.00 at Target.

Fitted Nicholas Checked Shirt, $39.99 at the Gap.

MUST READ TIPS:

Avoid Ed Hardy. Look at this picture of Jon Gosselin. This what you look like when you wear your Ed Hardy shirt. Does he look cool? Uhh, we think no. Do you when you wear an Ed Hardy shirt? Uhh, again that’s a no. So don’t do it. If you’re too much of a pansy to get a tattoo, wearing a tacky tattoo printed shirt won’t help.

Use Lotion. Some of you believe that your “natural” skin juices will somehow “counter attack” the layers, upon layers of ash on your skin, when what you really need is a bottle of lotion. Now we’re not talking about fancy lotions, just a bottle of Lubiderm or Vaseline or even a simple splash of some some baby oil gel after your shower will do.

Don’t Kill Them With Your Cologne. Avoid the urge to douse yourself in your cologne of choice. Take a good shower and do this little trick instead. Squirt the cologne into the air (just ONE squirt) and immediately walk into the area you just misted.

Pay. This doesn’t have anything to do with dressing, but there is nothing more attractive than a man that pays. We’re not saying blow your entire check on an eight course French dinner and a bottle of Dom, but do pay for the venti carmel macchiato or the movie. Scientific studies show that men who pay on the first date are 2.6 times more likely to get laid (ok that isn’t true, but it does help). If you’re a friend of Dorothy, this situation can get a bit tricky, so whoever set up the date, should be the one to pay.

Haha interesting post!

It’s true about wearing a nice pair of jeans, all mine are so messed up. I think that should be next on my list of things to buy…
I’m new to this fashion blogging, think it’s a great outlet to discuss ideas/trends. Just starting a mens based blog, if you could check it out and give me any advice, it’d be much appreciated (:

You cannot go wrong with dark jeans and a nice jacket – seems casual yet you are still trying to impress. I loved the four tips, too much Aqua Di Gio can give a girl a headache! Lotion is also key, soft hands are desirable!

Good tips….especially about avoiding Ed Hardy. I would not be happy if my casual date required me to stare at an Ed Hardy shirt all night.
