Corporate Jack: Suit It Up
Color: If it’s your first, black or dark navy blue. Both give a classic, clean and favorable look. If you’re a vet, grab another neutral like chocolate brown.
Single or double: No, not shots. Breasted. (Got your interest now, eh?) For a taller, leaner look, a single-breasted coat that comes to the top of the belly button. (Elongates the torso.) If you’re taller and can afford to stash some height, a double-breasted would work well.
Buttons: Two or three. Always the top button on the two-button and the middle button on the three-button. NEVER only button the last button or all three.
Patterns: Solids are great – very versatile. A very subtle pin stripe is great as well.
Pleats: Shorter than average? Stay away from them. If you dare to pleat, make sure they don’t “pooch.” If there’s a pleat, there should be a cuff. No pleat, no cuff.
Here’s a great primer on how to buy a suit.
